Energy infrastructure targeted in Ukraine
The country's power facilities have come under increased strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and dealt with problems to water supplies, according to city officials.

Meanwhile, a young boy was killed in a distinct aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia region in the southern area, based on information from regional authorities.

Moscow has escalated attacks on power infrastructure over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "substantial measures" from international partners to apply pressure on Moscow.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but strong steps - from the America, the EU and the G7 - in delivering defensive weapons and applying sanctions," he wrote in a online statement.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 projectiles struck Ukraine's energy infrastructure, describing such assaults as "cynical and calculated" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were striving to fix the damage.

A wave of strikes hit energy infrastructure and residential structures in the capital.

Several of the people hurt in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, as confirmed by local officials.
