Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced twice from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Following a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - added his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of opportunity. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
